The Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan with technical
and financial support of UNDP and its cost sharing donors
has initiated a two and half year's pilot project 'Gender
Responsive Budgeting Initiative' (GRBI). |

Gender-responsive
amendments introduced
in government's budgetary processes |
The Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan and the
Finance Department, Government of Punjab with the support
of the Gender Responsive Budgeting Initiative (GRBI) project,
have incorporated various gender-sensitive amendments
in the government's Medium Term Budgetary Framework (MTBF)
Budget Call Circular (2007-08). These amendments not only
demonstrate the commitment of the government for gender
responsive budgeting but would also go a long way in institutionalizing
the gender perspective in the government's established
budgetary forms and procedures. |

Gender Budget Statement issued in Punjab |
The GRBI commissioned the drafting of pilot gender budget
statements for the Education, Health and Population Welfare
sectors in Punjab. This was done after a series of workshops
which explored what gender budget statements should look
like in Pakistan and after development of a handbook for
government officials on how to do the task. |

One of the priority tools for GRB
is Gender Aware policy Appraisal which analyses
policies and programmes funded through the budget
from a gender perspective by asking whether policies
and their associated resource allocations are likely
to reduce or increase gender inequalities.
The project commissioned three individual studies for Education, Health and Population sectors. The studies undertook a sector specific situation analysis to understand the needs and identify gaps from a gender |
